Intrinsic Innovation LLC, a robotics software firm owned by Alphabet Inc., has released its Intrinsic Core platform as open-source software. The announcement took place at the ROSCon 2026 event in Toronto. The platform is distributed under the Apache 2.0 license to support the development of physical AI systems.

Intrinsic Core provides a preconfigured environment compatible with the Robot Operating System. It includes Intrinsic Control for real-time trajectory adaptation, Pose Estimation based on Nvidia FoundationPose for part detection, and automated motion planning. These tools aim to reduce the need for manual programming of robotic joints.

The software also features simulation and calibration services, along with drivers for integrating third-party sensors and grippers. Intrinsic intends for these components to serve as a reusable foundation, allowing developers to build intelligent robots without starting from scratch for every new project.

To demonstrate the platform, the company introduced the Open Machine Tending Solution. This reference design supports modular hardware from manufacturers such as Universal Robots and FANUC. It is intended to help small-scale fabrication shops automate tasks, addressing the current 8% automation adoption rate in the sector.
