Intrinsic, a robotics software company under Alphabet, announced the open-sourcing of its core industrial robotics platform components on September 22. The project, named Intrinsic Core, was unveiled at ROSCon 2026 in Toronto and is released under the Apache 2.0 license.
The platform provides a pre-configured software environment compatible with the Robot Operating System (ROS). It includes Intrinsic Control, a hardware-agnostic real-time control framework, and tools for pose estimation using Nvidia FoundationPose technology, motion planning, and grasp planning.
Intrinsic also introduced the Open Machine Tending Solution, an open reference design for AI-driven CNC machine loading and unloading. It supports hardware from manufacturers such as Universal Robots and FANUC, aiming to assist small and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises.
The company aims to reduce the complexity of robotics development by providing reusable components. This initiative is designed to lower the barriers to entry for automation, as Intrinsic notes that only about 8% of manufacturing firms in the US and Europe currently use automation.
