Intel has released version 2.6.0 of its open-source PresentMon gaming performance monitoring tool. The update focuses on resource optimization, achieving a 78% reduction in CPU usage under high load by adjusting the Event Tracing for Windows (ETW) data refresh mechanism. Standby CPU usage has also been reduced to nearly 0%.
The new version introduces a Game Experience overlay for tracking frame smoothness and animation metrics. The interface now displays unavailable metrics in gray with explanations, rather than hiding them. Users with multi-GPU setups can now view telemetry data for multiple cards simultaneously and select specific data sources for individual metrics.
For developers and testers, the update adds monitoring for DirectX 12 PSO compilation, including tracking compilation frequency and duration. It also supports Windows DDI Flip events, providing metadata like Source ID and Layer ID for multi-screen analysis. Additionally, GPU telemetry accuracy for AMD ADL interfaces has been improved.
The 2.6.0 release is compatible with Windows 10 and 11, supporting DirectX 9, 11, 12, OpenGL, and Vulkan. It works with both AMD and NVIDIA graphics cards. Several stability fixes were implemented, including resolving service restart issues and multi-instance conflicts, while the experimental Flash Injector feature has been removed.
