Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan and Broadcom CEO Hock Tan identified capital access as a primary challenge for the artificial intelligence industry during a financial conference in Singapore.

Hock Tan noted that demand for data center chips currently outstrips supply, with shortages expected to persist until 2028 or 2029, and a potential imbalance in computing capacity lasting until 2030.

Broadcom collaborated with OpenAI earlier this year to design a custom inference chip. Hock Tan observed that AI labs face high training costs and currently rely heavily on pilot projects for revenue.

Lip-Bu Tan highlighted that open-source language models from Chinese labs are gaining traction among budget-conscious users. He also predicted that quantum computing could reach mainstream adoption within three to five years.

Intel is currently developing quantum processors using standard manufacturing equipment. In January, the Argonne National Laboratory deployed a 12-qubit system from Intel, which aims to scale to hundreds of qubits.
