Huawei has released a new HarmonyOS update for the Mate 40 series, marking the first system software rollout for these devices in nearly a year. The update, identified as versions 4.2.0.196 and 4.2.0.210, focuses on improving system stability and optimizing display effects across various application scenarios.
The update covers the entire Mate 40 lineup, including the standard Mate 40, Pro, Pro 4G, 40E, 40E 4G, Pro+, and the RS Porsche Design editions. Users are advised to back up all critical data, such as WeChat and QQ history, to a PC or cloud storage before initiating the installation to prevent potential data loss.
The rollout is being conducted in batches. Users can manually check for the update by navigating to Settings, System and Updates, and Software Update. Huawei notes that the device may experience temporary heating, increased power consumption, or slower charging as the system optimizes itself over the first two to three days post-installation.
To facilitate faster system adaptation, the manufacturer recommends charging the device for at least two hours while the screen is off, preferably overnight, and restarting the phone after the update process is complete. The company also specifies that the device must not be rooted to receive the official firmware update.
