Huawei has entered the image sensor market with its proprietary 50-megapixel CMOS chip, the HiSilicon CS5250. The component was identified by analysts at TechInsights during a teardown of the Xiaotu S7 Pro Max action camera, marking the first time the sensor has appeared in a commercial consumer device.

The CS5250 is a stacked back-illuminated sensor with a die size of 11.57 by 8.67 millimeters, totaling approximately 100.3 square millimeters. The active pixel array measures 10.09 by 7.57 millimeters with a 12.61-millimeter diagonal. Each pixel is 1.20 micrometers in size, and the sensor utilizes a Quad Bayer color filter scheme.

This development signals Huawei's expansion into the compact and mobile image sensor sector, positioning HiSilicon to compete with established industry leaders such as Sony, Samsung, and OmniVision. TechInsights plans to release more detailed technical reports on the sensor's internal architecture and signal processing starting in December.
