Honor has released the AI-powered 'AI Grip' feature for its Magic6 smartphone series. Users can access this functionality by updating their devices to version 110 and enabling the setting within the Honor AI & YOYO menu.
The feature utilizes existing hardware, including the gyroscope, gravity sensor, and touch-sensitive frame, combined with on-device AI algorithms. It detects whether the user is holding the phone with their left or right hand, automatically shifting incoming call buttons to the side of the grip.
The function is currently compatible with system call banners and select voice or video applications when the phone is unlocked and not on the home screen. Honor notes that performance may vary if the phone is shaken, held improperly, or operated with two hands.
Beyond the Magic6 series, the feature is supported on various models including the Magic8 and Magic7 series, following an update to MagicOS 11. Support for the Magic5 series and Magic8 Pro Air is scheduled for mid-November.
The MagicOS 11 update also introduces additional features such as adjustable transparency modes, new themes, and enhanced camera capabilities like live photo watermarking. The company continues to work on adapting these algorithms for a broader range of devices.
