Gridserve and Voltloader have extended their partnership to increase public charging access for electric heavy goods vehicles in the UK. Voltloader will integrate the Electric Freightway network into its existing infrastructure, which currently consists of depot-based chargers.
The Electric Freightway network currently includes dedicated charging hubs at Extra Baldock, Moto Exeter, Moto Tamworth, as well as the Markham Vale and Stevenage Electric Forecourts. These sites were originally established under the UK Zero Emission HGV and Infrastructure Demonstrator programme.
The companies plan to launch six additional charging hubs for electric freight vehicles by the first quarter of 2027. These new locations are strategically positioned along major UK freight routes to support the daily operational needs of commercial haulers.
Under the terms of the agreement, Voltloader gains access to ultra-rapid charging hubs at preferential rates. Gridserve will utilize the partnership to gather operational data on how public infrastructure supports commercial freight, building on previous ZEHID findings that suggest one electric HGV can reduce carbon emissions by 1,000 tonnes by 2034.
