Google has officially introduced its new line of premium laptops, branded as Googlebooks, which are set to replace the existing Chromebook series. The devices are manufactured by five hardware partners: Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo.
The laptops run on a new Android-based operating system codenamed Aluminium OS. This platform integrates with Android smartphones and incorporates Google’s Gemini AI, featuring tools like the Magic Pointer for contextual suggestions and generative widgets.
Hardware design includes a built-in notification light indicator called Glowbar. Pre-orders for the new devices began on September 21, 2026, with the first units scheduled to arrive on October 4, 2026.
Google aims to compete in the premium market against Apple’s MacBook and Windows-based AI laptops. While the initial launch focuses on high-end hardware, the company has confirmed plans to release lower-cost models in the future.
