Google has opened pre-orders for its new AI-focused laptop, the Googlebook, priced at $899. The device runs on Android OS and integrates Gemini AI directly into the system, featuring tools like an AI-powered cursor called Magic Cursor, vibe-coded widgets, and the Rambler dictation tool.
The hardware is manufactured by partners including Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo. These laptops feature Intel and Qualcomm processors with dedicated NPUs, OLED displays up to 2.8K resolution, and a battery life of up to 14 hours. The devices are built using aluminum, magnesium alloy, and carbon fiber.
Purchasers receive a 12-month subscription to Google AI Pro, which includes 5TB of cloud storage, Gemini Advanced tools, and 3-month trials for services like YouTube Premium and Adobe Photoshop. Google promises software support and regular updates for up to 10 years.
The product launch is part of a strategy to transition the existing base of approximately 50 million Chromebooks in the education sector toward Gemini AI. Retail availability begins on October 4 in the U.S., followed by Canada, the U.K., Ireland, France, Germany, and Australia on October 5.
