Starting October 9, 2026, Google will restrict access to its Gemini AI models for personal account holders without a paid subscription. Users will be limited to the Flash-Lite model, losing access to the Flash and Pro classes.
The Flash models will be moved to the Google AI Plus tier, while the Pro models will require an AI Pro or AI Ultra subscription. Subscribers of the two higher tiers will retain access to all three model classes: Flash-Lite, Flash, and Pro.
Google is also enhancing the AI Pro subscription by adding the Deep Think reasoning mode, previously exclusive to the AI Ultra plan. Additionally, users will gain the ability to adjust computational load settings, which will impact the consumption rate of their usage limits.
These changes apply specifically to consumer Gemini applications for personal accounts and do not affect Gemini API or Google AI Studio. The company clarified that these rules are not tied to specific model versions, allowing for future updates.
In the Antigravity development environment, access to Claude Sonnet 5.5 and Claude Opus 5.5 will be restricted to AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers. Starting November 2, older models including Claude Sonnet 4.6, Claude Opus 4.6, and GPT-OSS-120B will be removed.
