Starting October 9, 2026, Google will restrict access for free Gemini users to only the Flash-Lite model. This change removes access to the Flash and Pro models previously available to free accounts.
The updated subscription structure also affects Google AI Plus users, who will now be limited to the Flash-Lite and Flash models. Access to the Pro model will be restricted to the higher-tier AI Pro and AI Ultra plans.
The AI Pro and AI Ultra tiers will retain access to the full model suite, including Flash-Lite, Flash, and Pro. Additionally, these premium plans will now include the Deep Think feature, which supports complex parallel reasoning tasks.
These changes follow the recent announcement of the Gemini 4 Argon flagship model. Currently, Argon is not available to the general public and is restricted to participants in the Google Fairwind program, including cybersecurity organizations and select partners.
Google's new policy shifts the Gemini product line toward a tiered pricing model. The company aims to differentiate service levels by concentrating advanced reasoning capabilities and model access within its premium subscription offerings.
