Google has introduced the Home Model Context Protocol (MCP) integration, allowing third-party AI agents to control and monitor devices within the Google Home ecosystem. Supported agents include Claude, Open Claw, Hermes, and Google Antigravity.
The integration enables agents to analyze event history, perform cross-camera analysis, and interact with users via voice through Google Home speakers. Agents can also create custom dashboards for home management.
Access is currently limited to Google Home Premium Advanced subscribers in the US, priced at $20 per month or $200 per year. Rollout is scheduled for the coming weeks, requiring a Google Cloud project setup.
Google has implemented safety protections, such as rate limits and restrictions on sensitive actions like unlocking doors. The company emphasizes that this does not replace Gemini for Home, which remains the primary interface.
This move positions Google as a smart home infrastructure provider, similar to the AWS model for internet services. Developers can use the Antigravity tool to build custom AI agents that leverage Google Home data.
