Google is facing significant local opposition in Finland due to the construction of new AI data centers. The project has resulted in the clearing of 1,300 acres of forest, which residents claim has displaced local wildlife, including wolf packs, forcing them into nearby villages.

The Finnish Licensing and Supervision Authority (LVV) has intervened by issuing an order for Google to halt development activities near the towns of Muhos, Otanmäki, and Kajaani. Local environmental groups, including the Finnish Association for Nature Conservation, have accused the company of disregarding environmental regulations.

Beyond concerns regarding wildlife displacement, residents have reported issues such as increased construction noise and the pollution of local water streams. A Google spokesperson stated that the company intends to comply with the regulatory orders and maintain a dialogue with Finnish authorities.
