Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced that internal research suggests the upcoming Gemini 5 model will outperform the recently released Gemini 4 Argon. This projection supports the company's strategy to increase investment in computing infrastructure.

The company launched Gemini 4 Argon on September 30, 2026, with general availability starting October 13, 2026. Designed for software engineering, cybersecurity, and finance, the model achieved a 77.9% score on the DeepSWE v1.1 benchmark.

During its first 72 hours, Argon processed approximately 25 trillion tokens, tripling the volume handled by Gemini 3.0 during its initial launch period. Pichai noted that strong demand from both consumer and enterprise clients justifies the current spending.

Pichai emphasized that Google's infrastructure investments are backed by long-term revenue contracts rather than speculative forecasts. These agreements provide visibility into future income, allowing the company to defend significant upfront capital expenditures to shareholders.
