Google has initiated the final phase of phasing out Google Assistant on Android devices. The company officially announced the end of support for the service in August 2026, with a gradual shutdown process beginning on September 4.
Users of various Android devices, including Samsung and Pixel smartphones, report that the option to switch back to Google Assistant from the new Gemini interface has been removed. This change has triggered widespread dissatisfaction among the user base.
While the transition is underway on Android, the Google Assistant application remains functional on iPhone devices. This indicates that the company is executing a phased rollout of the service termination rather than a simultaneous global shutdown.
The primary criticism stems from functional differences between the two assistants. Users note that while Gemini excels at complex queries and dialogue, it lacks the deep integration with smart home devices and specific Google services that were previously available.
