General Motors and Pacific Gas and Electric have launched the Smart Charge Bundle program for new electric vehicle buyers in Northern and Central California. The initiative aims to balance grid demand by incentivizing managed charging sessions during off-peak hours.

Participants who purchase a new Chevrolet, Cadillac, or GMC electric vehicle from a participating dealer and maintain PG&E residential service are eligible for a free home charger. The offer includes the GM PowerShift model, valued between $1,399 and $1,999, or the PowerUp2 charger, valued at $899.

To qualify, customers must use Qmerit for equipment installation and maintain an active OnStar subscription. The program provides a monthly bill credit of $15 for participation, plus an additional incentive of up to $50 per month based on the volume of charging shifted to optimal grid times.

The offer is available for all GM electric models and will remain active until February 2027 or until the program reaches its capacity limit. The initiative focuses on managed charging, which allows utilities to remotely control charging sessions without requiring bidirectional energy flow.
