German Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced funding for several tens of thousands of interceptor drones for Ukraine. The procurement is part of the German military aid package scheduled for the winter of 2026/2027. The drones are designed to protect civilian infrastructure and cities from aerial threats, including jet-powered attack drones.

The interceptor systems were developed by Quantum WIY Industries, a joint venture between Quantum Systems and the Ukrainian manufacturer WIY Drones. These drones integrate with the MOSAIC UXS software suite. Production will take place directly in Ukraine to ensure rapid deployment and scalability as demand for counter-drone capabilities increases.

Quantum Systems maintains a significant presence in Ukraine, employing several hundred people in the country. The company operates a production network that includes Quantum Frontline Industries, Quantum WIY Industries, and Quantum Tencore Industries. This model aims to combine Ukrainian frontline experience with German industrial capacity.

During a visit to Kyiv, Chancellor Merz and Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Katherina Reiche met with Quantum Systems representatives to discuss wartime manufacturing and training. Additionally, Quantum Systems and Fire Point signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on new technologies for unmanned systems and aerial threat mitigation.
