Rohit Patel, the former head of Meta's superintelligence lab, has departed the company after an eight-year tenure. He has launched a new startup called Ndoc, which aims to develop an AI-native office software suite to compete with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
The Ndoc platform is designed to consolidate fragmented workflows into a single interface. It features three core modules: Stage for presenting content like slides and dashboards, Narrative for data analysis and reporting, and Model for managing datasets and Python scripts.
Users can upload datasets for analysis and generate explanatory text within the platform. Patel intends to redefine document formats by introducing the .ndoc.html file type, which is compatible with all web browsers. He plans to open-source this format for other developers.
Patel's departure follows a series of exits from Meta, including global affairs head Joel Kaplan, AI researcher Andrew Tulloch, and Emily Dalton Smith, who led AI products for work environments.
