Ford is currently testing its new LMDh hypercar prototype at the Monza circuit in Italy. The vehicle features a specialized 5.4-liter hybrid V8 engine, which is derived from the company's Coyote V8 architecture used in production models like the Mustang. Ford Racing has performed extensive modifications to the powertrain to meet the specific requirements of the WEC racing class.

The total power output of the hybrid system is capped at 670 horsepower in accordance with WEC regulations. Ford intends to officially unveil the completed race car on November 26, coinciding with the Thanksgiving holiday. The company aims to compete in the LMDh class with the primary objective of securing an overall victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The racing program marks a continuation of Ford's long-standing history at Le Mans, which spans over 60 years. The manufacturer previously achieved four consecutive wins starting in 1966 with the GT40 and later secured a class victory in 2016. The upcoming WEC season is scheduled to commence in Qatar in March 2027.
