Ford has filed a patent for a multi-use front trunk design, likely intended for the upcoming Fathom electric truck. The patent, numbered 12,741,514 and titled 'Vehicle cargo space access providing method,' was recently published by the US Patent and Trademark Office.

The design features a fold-out section that functions as a front tailgate, providing a flat surface for various tasks. The hood remains functional, allowing for both upper and lower work surfaces. Additionally, the top surface of the hood is designed to be swappable with metal or polymer materials to prevent paint damage.

The patent also details the possibility of integrating a television into the front storage area. The screen would fold down when the trunk is closed, utilizing the vehicle's large battery for power. Ford aims to sell 100 000 units of the Fathom in its first year, with a starting price under $30 000.
