Rivian is shifting its business model from a pure electric vehicle manufacturer to a broader technology supplier. CEO RJ Scaringe confirmed plans to license the company's proprietary electric architecture, software, AI models, and autonomous driving stack to other automotive brands.

The company is increasing its vertical integration through several strategic initiatives. This includes a 5 nm custom processor developed with Arm and TSMC, and a $5.8 billion joint venture with VW Group focused on software and electric vehicle architecture.

Rivian is also expanding its influence through external ventures. It holds a 31% stake in Mind Robotics, an industrial robotics startup led by former Tesla and Apple executive Doug Field, which aims to sell automation solutions to third-party manufacturers.

Future growth plans include a partnership with Uber to develop an end-to-end automated driving stack for robotaxis. Scaringe also noted that the company is exploring new vehicle form factors specifically designed for autonomous operation beyond the R2 and R3 models.
