Dave Wehner, the former chief strategy officer at Meta, has joined the AI startup Fireworks as its new chief financial officer. Wehner previously served as Meta’s CFO from 2014 to 2022 and spent over a decade at the company. His new role at Fireworks involves overseeing the startup’s financial operations and scaling its business.

Founded in 2022 by former Meta engineers, including CEO Lin Qiao, Fireworks specializes in AI inference for enterprise clients. The company enables businesses to customize open-source AI models using their own proprietary data. Its platform currently processes more than 40 trillion tokens daily, with clients including Uber, Shopify, and Doximity.

In July 2026, Fireworks secured $1.505 billion in a Series D funding round, bringing the company's post-money valuation to $17.5 billion. By mid-2026, the startup reached an annualized revenue run rate of $1 billion, having grown from $100 million in approximately 16 months.

The appointment of Wehner is intended to help the company manage its infrastructure costs and balance compute spending with rapid revenue growth. His background in financial planning and capital allocation at Meta is expected to support the startup's operational scaling.
