F5 Inc. and Oracle Corp. have signed a nonbinding memorandum of understanding to integrate F5 security technology into Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. The collaboration aims to provide web application and API protection for organizations operating within the OCI environment.
The initiative focuses on defending critical applications against sophisticated attacks, including those powered by artificial intelligence. F5 plans to utilize AI runtime defense to enable virtual patching, allowing teams to shield systems while permanent fixes are developed.
Oracle currently operates its own web application firewall service on OCI, which addresses threats like SQL injection, bots, and DDoS attacks. The companies have not yet disclosed how the F5 technology will coexist with this existing service or which specific F5 products will be included.
The two companies have a history of collaboration dating back to 2001, primarily involving application delivery for Oracle software. F5 recently reported fiscal fourth-quarter revenue of $917 million, representing a 13% increase compared to the previous year.
No specific timeline for the integration has been announced, and pricing details remain undisclosed. The companies clarified that the current agreement does not establish a formal partnership or joint venture.
