Expensify has launched a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that allows AI assistants to access and analyze user financial data. The tool enables users to query expenses using natural language, replacing manual spreadsheet management.
The integration was highlighted on September 15 during the launch of Anthropic’s Claude for Small Business, which debuted with 27 integrations and 43 workflows. The Expensify MCP server itself was initially released on June 8.
The system uses OAuth 2.1 for authentication and requires a validated Expensify account alongside a compatible AI subscription. While the server supports Claude, it is also designed to work with other AI tools like ChatGPT and Cursor.
The integration allows for data retrieval and analysis but prevents AI assistants from modifying settings or approving reports. Expensify, which trades on Nasdaq under the ticker EXFY, serves approximately 15 million users globally.
