Italian cybersecurity firm Exein has secured $270 million in a funding round, pushing its total valuation to $1.7 billion. The company, founded in 2018, specializes in firmware-level security for IoT devices, robots, and vehicles. Currently, its software is integrated into more than 2 billion devices across the automotive, energy, and robotics sectors.
The startup reports a significant increase in security threats, observing approximately 5,000 new, non-repetitive attacks weekly. To counter these, Exein is developing a proprietary foundation model for physical AI security, with an agentic architecture scheduled for release by the end of this year and the first models expected in the first quarter of 2027.
Exein plans to use the new capital to expand its presence in the United States, including opening a Bay Area office, and to pursue acquisitions in Europe and the U.S. The company has also increased its revolving credit facility led by JPMorgan Chase, with KfW joining as a lender. Total investment in the firm has now exceeded $600 million.
The funding round was led by Headline Management, with participation from 13 other investors, including Goldman Sachs, Sofina, and the European Investment Bank. Exein currently generates half of its revenue in the Asia-Pacific region, where it has established a headquarters in Taiwan and plans further expansion into Japan and South Korea.
