Filmmaker Georgy Gashokin has developed EVA Engineer, an autonomous AI development environment designed to streamline coding tasks. The tool provides AI models with direct access to a file system, a shell terminal, a live preview browser, and the internet, functioning as a dedicated workspace for the AI.
The software is built using an Electron and React stack. It utilizes a comprehensive system prompt, spanning 773 lines, which dictates the AI's behavior and enforces specific XML-based communication protocols. This structure allows the AI to plan architecture and execute code changes directly within the user's local files.
A key feature of EVA is the 'Focus' mode, which enables users to click on UI elements in the live preview to automatically capture coordinates and CSS selectors. This allows for precise edits without requiring the AI to rewrite entire files, which saves tokens and reduces processing time.
The system implements four specific patching methods to modify code, including context-based search and replacement, line-specific patches, block deletion, and full file overwrites. Full rewrites are restricted to new files or those under 50 lines to maintain efficiency.
EVA includes a feature for direct internet access, allowing the AI to fetch real-time data from search engines like Google, Yandex, and DuckDuckGo. The tool processes search results by stripping away ads and scripts, providing the AI with clean text for its tasks.
