Ethereum developers have postponed the Glamsterdam upgrade in the Hoodi testnet. The delay allows for further analysis of how EIP-8037 interacts with existing smart contracts. The hard fork was originally scheduled for October 26, but a new date has not yet been set.

EIP-8037 modifies gas calculation mechanisms for new blockchain state entries. According to a ChainSecurity report from October 13, these changes, combined with EIP-8038, may cause applications to handle errors incorrectly. Specifically, operations that previously failed due to insufficient gas may now have enough remaining gas to record errors prematurely.

The update also impacts costs, with new storage cell creation requiring 110 020 gas units compared to the previous 22 100. Consequently, the Ethereum Foundation has advised developers to audit contracts relying on fixed gas limits. Additionally, the planned increase of the block gas limit in Hoodi to 200 million has been canceled.

While Glamsterdam was successfully deployed on the Sepolia testnet on October 6, its mainnet activation date remains unconfirmed. The upgrade aims to introduce ePBS, block-level access lists, and revised operation costs to improve network throughput. The Ethereum Foundation noted that mainnet users do not need to take any action.
