The Epicland X9, a flagship EREV SUV developed by Dongfeng and Huawei Qiankun, was involved in a severe rear-end collision in Taizhou, China, on October 28, 2026. The vehicle was struck by a fully loaded dump truck while stationary, leading to a fire that broke out at the rear of the car.

According to the manufacturer, all three passengers evacuated the vehicle safely as the doors functioned as intended. While the car caught fire, subsequent inspections confirmed that the lithium iron phosphate battery pack from CATL remained intact. The company stated the fire originated from the fuel system rather than the battery.

The Epicland X9 launched on September 24, 2026, with a promotional price range of ¥279 800 to ¥359 800. The model recorded 9 157 firm orders within the first 24 hours of its release. The vehicle's performance in the incident aligns with current industry safety standards that emphasize preventing battery fires and explosions.
