The European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) has introduced a new funding program to support higher education institutions in commercializing research. The initiative focuses on advanced manufacturing and deep tech sectors, aiming to bridge the gap between academic laboratories and the market.

The program provides a total of €40 million for the 2026 funding round. Selected projects can receive up to €1.25 million each, with a project duration of 18 months. The initiative is designed to help universities cultivate entrepreneurial skills among students and staff while strengthening intellectual property management.

Applicants must form consortia consisting of at least five partners. This includes a minimum of three higher education institutions from different Horizon Europe-eligible countries and at least two business or industry partners. Organizations operating in manufacturing or deep tech are specifically encouraged to participate.

The EIT will facilitate collaboration through its Knowledge and Innovation Communities, connecting universities with investors and the broader startup ecosystem. The deadline for submitting applications is 13 January 2027 at 17:00 CET, with the final selection of projects scheduled for announcement later in 2027.
