DP World has finalized a 50-year concession agreement with the Fujairah Ports Authority to construct two deep-water terminals on the UAE's east coast. The project includes a terminal at Al Rugaylat with a capacity of 2.5 million TEUs annually and a facility at Dibba capable of handling 3.6 million tonnes of cargo per year.
The company plans to invest approximately $3 billion in capital expenditures during 2026. These new terminals are designed to connect to the Jebel Ali facility via an inland logistics network, providing an alternative route for cargo if the Strait of Hormuz becomes inaccessible.
Construction is scheduled to be completed within 24 to 30 months. Upon completion, the project will increase DP World's total global container capacity from 19.4 million TEUs to nearly 22 million TEUs.
Since March 2026, DP World has transported between 350,000 and 500,000 TEUs overland through Oman to Jeddah. To support these operations, the company expanded its fleet by 700 trucks, which now perform approximately 3,000 daily movements across the network.
