Diodes Incorporated has released a new line of field-plated Super Barrier Rectifiers (SBRFP) designed specifically for automotive applications. The series includes components rated for 2 A, 3 A, and 8 A, serving as direct replacements for standard Schottky and PN junction diodes. These rectifiers utilize a metal oxide semiconductor manufacturing process to improve performance in DC-DC converters, LED lighting, and transmission control systems.

The 8 A model, SBRFP8A60P5Q, features a maximum forward voltage of 0.55 V at 8 A, which reduces conduction loss and heat generation. The 2 A SBRFP2M60P1Q and 3 A SBRFP3M60SAFQ models demonstrate low reverse leakage currents of 12 µA and 7 µA at 60 V and 25° C, respectively. This design helps mitigate the risk of thermal runaway during high-temperature operations.

The new components offer avalanche energy ratings up to 145 mJ, which the company states is five to 10 times higher than conventional Schottky rectifiers. This capability allows the devices to handle electrical surges and load dumps. All models in the family operate within a junction temperature range of -55° C to +175° C and are available in PowerDI123, PowerDI5, and SMAF package formats.

Pricing for the new rectifier family is set for 1,000-piece quantities. The SBRFP2M60P1Q is priced at $0.08, the SBRFP2M60SAFQ at $0.11, the SBRFP3M60SAFQ at $0.13, and the SBRFP8A60P5Q at $0.26 per unit.
