Digital Science, a UK-based provider of research infrastructure and data, has acquired the AI platform Jenni AI. The startup currently serves over 8 million students and researchers across 189 countries, offering tools for drafting, refining, and citing academic work.
Following the acquisition, Jenni AI will integrate Digital Science’s research data, beginning with the Dimensions database. This resource contains 171 million publications, enabling users to verify citations against original source material through full-text search capabilities.
Jenni AI will continue to operate as a standalone product, retaining its existing team, pricing, and subscription models. The platform joins Digital Science’s portfolio alongside other research tools such as Overleaf, Papers AI, and ReadCube.
According to Digital Science CEO Stephen Leicht, the acquisition aims to provide researchers with verified citations, a feature often missing in general-purpose AI tools. The move also expands the company's direct engagement with master’s and PhD students.
