Deepgram has acquired Daily, the developer behind the open-source voice AI framework Pipecat. The companies did not disclose the financial terms of the transaction.
Pipecat manages voice and video streams, integrating speech-to-text, large language models, and text-to-speech tools to reduce latency. Deepgram plans to keep the framework open-source.
Daily previously raised over $62 million from investors including Tiger Global and Highfield Capital. Deepgram achieved unicorn status earlier this year following a $130 million Series C round.
The acquisition enables Deepgram to expand its real-time communication infrastructure. The companies, which were both part of the 2016 Y Combinator batch, will now focus on developing agent-based systems.
Alongside the deal, Deepgram is launching the Real-Time Context Standard, an open protocol for voice agents co-developed with the Pipecat team to standardize metadata for audio interactions.
