Dell Technologies is emphasizing the importance of internal knowledge management over reliance on third-party AI models. According to global CTO and chief AI officer John Roese, companies must restructure their operating models to effectively integrate autonomous agents into their workflows.

The company has spent nearly two years testing fully autonomous agents internally. Dell uses subject matter experts to encode proprietary practices into machine-readable skill files, which guide agent behavior in tasks such as coding, pricing, and customer service.

Roese advises enterprises to keep proprietary knowledge in-house rather than sharing it with third parties. By maintaining control over this data, companies can ensure their AI systems reflect unique operational biases and rules that differentiate them from competitors.

These insights were shared during the Dell Technologies New York Symposium. The company promotes its AI Factory framework as a method for organizations to bridge the gap between their AI ambitions and actual business outcomes.
