Dell Technologies is observing a shift in how financial officers manage artificial intelligence investments. CFOs are moving away from simple cost control toward prioritizing speed and productivity gains. Companies are increasingly treating token consumption as a dedicated budget line item to ensure AI projects deliver measurable value.

Dell CFO David Kennedy noted that financial services firms, particularly those in high-frequency trading, have successfully transitioned AI from experimental pilots to production environments. Pharmaceutical companies are identified as the next sector likely to follow this trend in scaling AI operations.

To manage costs effectively, Dell suggests that enterprises should optimize model placement. By running repetitive workflows on open-weight models on-premises, businesses can convert variable token expenses into fixed costs. Efficiency in token usage is now considered a primary driver of successful outcomes.

Dell currently supports 6 500 AI factories within its customer base. In May, the company expanded its AI Factory initiative in partnership with Nvidia to assist clients in bridging the gap between initial experimentation and operational results.
