ByteDance, Alibaba, and Tencent have placed orders for Nvidia RTX Pro 5500 workstation GPUs to support their artificial intelligence projects. The total value of these orders is estimated at $35 billion, with individual units priced at approximately $11,400.
The RTX Pro 5500 features 84GB of GDDR7 memory and a CUDA core count comparable to the flagship RTX 5090. These cards are currently not subject to U.S. export restrictions, making them a viable alternative to the banned H200 and B300 enterprise models.
Despite the high demand, Nvidia may face significant supply constraints. Reports suggest that the company might only be able to fulfill between 5% and 10% of the total orders placed by these Chinese tech firms.
Nvidia is projected to have a global production capacity of 3 million RTX Pro 5500 units in 2027. An Nvidia spokesperson noted that demand from the Chinese market has experienced unprecedented growth since 2022, following the introduction of initial export controls.
