The Chinese Academy of Sciences has officially launched the Scientific Frontier Limit Breakthrough Program in Beijing. The initiative focuses on ten initial projects covering areas such as the synthesis of new elements, the nature of dark matter and dark energy, microscopic measurement of chemical bonds, and the synthesis of artificial cells.

The program aims to achieve major original breakthroughs in fields critical to national development and public welfare. Future research will prioritize material science, life science, earth system science, and space science. The academy plans to leverage large-scale scientific infrastructure and artificial intelligence to support these efforts.

A key component of the program is the reform of research management and evaluation systems. The academy intends to reduce intervention in research processes and move away from a primary focus on short-term results or publication counts. The new policy introduces a tolerance for failure to encourage long-term scientific exploration.

The academy is inviting scientists from both within the organization and globally to propose major research questions. Collaborative platforms, such as the Xiangshan Science Conference, will be used to refine these ideas. The program seeks to integrate multidisciplinary resources and talent to improve overall research efficiency.
