The range for the autonomous pricing coefficient of new energy vehicle commercial insurance is expected to be adjusted to 0.5–1.5. This change aligns the pricing framework for electric vehicles with that of traditional internal combustion engine cars.
The National Financial Regulatory Administration and other departments issued guidelines in January 2025 to optimize the floating range of these coefficients. Previous adjustments occurred in September 2025, moving from 0.65–1.35 to 0.6–1.4, and in March 2026, reaching 0.55–1.45.
Insurance premiums are calculated using the formula: base premium multiplied by the NCD coefficient and the autonomous pricing coefficient. The NCD coefficient reflects the driver's claims history, while the autonomous coefficient accounts for age, driving habits, and vehicle risk.
Experts indicate that this adjustment shifts the industry toward a model of individual pricing per vehicle. While owners of low-risk, affordable-to-repair models may see premiums drop by 10–20%, vehicles with high repair costs or frequent claims could face premium increases exceeding 20%.
