During the National Day holiday from October 1 to 7, new energy vehicles in China consumed 163 million kWh of electricity at highway charging stations. This represents a daily average of 23.26 million kWh, marking a 51.42% increase compared to the same period last year. The total number of charging sessions on highways reached 6.711 million.
The peak demand occurred on October 1, when charging volume hit 28.05 million kWh. This figure represents a 60.40% year-on-year increase and stands as a record for a single day during any holiday period. In the first three days of the holiday, total charging sessions reached 2.9686 million, with electricity consumption totaling 71.62 million kWh.
The data reflects activity across 62,700 highway charging facilities monitored by the national platform, an increase from 48,400 facilities tracked during the previous year's holiday. By the end of June 2026, China had installed 85,400 charging connectors at highway service areas, with plans to add over 10,000 more throughout 2026.
The surge in charging demand correlates with the growth of China's NEV fleet, which reached 48.97 million vehicles by the end of June 2026. This figure accounts for 13.19% of the total automobile fleet in the country. In the first half of 2026, newly registered NEVs totaled 5.195 million, comprising 49.42% of all new vehicle registrations.
