The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China has released draft national standards for automotive lighting and data security. These regulations introduce specific requirements for the design and installation of vehicle light signals to improve road safety and standardize automated driving indicators.

A key update includes the introduction of a blue-green color specifically for ADS (Automated Driving System) indicator lights. According to the new guidelines, only vehicles equipped with Level 3 or higher autonomous driving systems are permitted to install these indicators. Vehicles lacking such capabilities are strictly prohibited from using them.

The draft also addresses light mixing risks by prohibiting the combination of turn signals with brake or rear fog lights. Similarly, reversing lights must remain separate from brake and rear fog lights. These measures aim to prevent confusion for other road users by ensuring clear and distinct light signals.

The ministry emphasizes that current driver assistance systems do not equate to full automation. Drivers remain the primary responsible party and must maintain focus regardless of the vehicle's automated features. The proposed standards are currently open for public comment as part of the national standardization process.
