China Mobile Hong Kong has launched the first U6GHz network in the region, conducting successful tests at its flagship store in Mong Kok. This development marks a significant step in exploring the application of the Upper 6GHz frequency band for mobile networks.

The U6GHz band is considered a vital resource for the evolution of 5G-A and future 6G technologies, offering continuous large bandwidth. Hong Kong became the first region globally to auction the 6/7GHz spectrum for public mobile services on November 29, 2024.

China Mobile Hong Kong secured 100MHz of continuous spectrum during the auction. The company is now focusing on network capability verification and terminal adaptation to build experience for future 6G commercialization.

By utilizing spectrum aggregation technology, the new U6GHz band works alongside existing frequencies to achieve download speeds exceeding 3Gbps. This expansion aims to increase data transmission capacity and improve connectivity in high-traffic areas.

Simultaneously, China Telecom (Macau) has installed a U6G demonstration base station and initiated field testing. These efforts represent a major advancement in the deployment of the new frequency band across the Hong Kong and Macau regions.
