The project, led by Tongji Hospital of Tongji Medical College of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, officially launched in Wuhan on October 24. It aims to establish a high-quality, autonomous, and controllable brain-computer interface database by 2027.

The initiative focuses on 10 specific disease categories, including stroke rehabilitation, spinal cord injury, Parkinson's disease, epilepsy, consciousness disorders, intractable pain, facial paralysis, speech impairment, movement disorders, and gastrointestinal neuromodulation.

The project seeks to address data fragmentation by creating a comprehensive, multi-modal, and fully integrated database. It covers the primary clinical scenarios for neuromodulation and functional reconstruction.

Earlier this month, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO/IEC) released an international standard for brain-computer interface reference architecture, which was led by Chinese experts with participation from 10 other countries.

Additionally, in September, the National Medical Products Administration approved China's third medical device standard for brain-computer interfaces. This is the first global standard for products using AI to process EEG data, effective September 1, 2025.
