The second regular meeting of the China-EU trade and investment consultation mechanism took place in Beijing on October 8-9, 2026. Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao and European Commission Executive Vice-President Maros Sefcovic led the discussions.
The parties reached an understanding on hybrid vehicle trade in compliance with WTO rules. They also agreed to continue price commitment procedures regarding the anti-subsidy case involving electric vehicles.
China committed to facilitating export license approvals for rare earths and permanent magnets to the EU via a green channel. The EU side will assist in resolving key dual-use export license cases for China.
Both sides are exploring the possibility of reducing tariffs on certain goods under the WTO framework. They emphasized the importance of global supply chain stability and predictability.
The next meeting of the mechanism is scheduled for March 2027. Prior to that, the parties plan to maintain close communication, including a ministerial-level video conference in January.
