Chery has unveiled its Rhinoceros battery roadmap, which includes liquid-electrolyte cells with 12C peak charging and a solid-state battery, the Rhinoceros S, featuring an energy density of 400 Wh/kg. The company plans to launch a pilot production line for the solid-state cells in 2027.

The Rhinoceros S solid-state battery is designed to operate in temperatures ranging from -40°C to 100°C. Chery is also developing a separate solid-state technology variant targeting 600 Wh/kg, utilizing different electrolyte and cathode formulations compared to the 400 Wh/kg version.

The company is prioritizing engineering challenges such as material-interface contact and battery-pack integration. While Chery has set a long-term development target of 1,500 km of range for vehicles equipped with solid-state batteries, no specific timeline for customer deliveries has been established.

Beyond automotive batteries, the Rhinoceros portfolio includes sodium-ion cells for energy storage, rated for up to 15,000 cycles. Chery also introduced a stationary power generation system using ammonia-fueled solid oxide fuel cells, claiming 60% electrical efficiency and 90% combined heat and power efficiency.
