Chery has announced the launch of the Stockman, a new plug-in hybrid ute for the Australian market. The vehicle will be available in both diesel and petrol PHEV configurations. The diesel model features a 2.5-liter turbo diesel engine paired with an electric motor.
Reservations for the Chery Stockman are currently open via the company's official Australian website. While official pricing has not been confirmed, industry expectations suggest the vehicle will be positioned to compete with the BYD Shark 6, which is priced at approximately AU 56 000.
Market data for the Australian ute segment from February 2025 to October 2026 shows that BYD sold 31 659 units of its Shark 6 petrol hybrid. During the same period, sales for the Great Wall Canon Alpha PHEV and the Ford Ranger PHEV were estimated to be in the low thousands.
Technical specifications for the Ford Ranger PHEV indicate an electric-only range of 30 km. The Chery Stockman is expected to offer towing and carrying capabilities comparable to the performance version of the BYD Shark 6.
