Changan Automobile announced its progress in sodium-ion battery development on September 24. The company has successfully improved high-power electrode technology, which enhances vehicle range performance in extreme temperature conditions.

The automaker is deepening its partnership with CATL to launch a new battery swapping project. Both companies are collaborating on the research and development of a new battery system architecture.

CATL previously introduced its sodium-ion battery brand, Naxin, which includes power batteries and 24V heavy-duty truck batteries. These units are designed to operate in temperatures ranging from minus 40 to plus 70 degrees Celsius.

According to CATL, the Naxin battery aims to mitigate performance degradation in cold climates. For a vehicle with a 2.95-meter wheelbase, the technology allows hybrid cars to achieve over 200 km of electric range and pure electric models to exceed 500 km.
