CATL unveiled its TECTRANS II battery platform at the IAA Transportation 2026 exhibition in Hanover. The modular system is designed for heavy-duty electric trucks and supports both standard charging and battery swapping. The architecture allows manufacturers to adjust the number and configuration of battery packs based on specific vehicle requirements.
The platform offers a maximum range of up to 1,000 km. Using megawatt-level charging, the battery can reach 80% capacity in approximately 25 minutes. The system features a specific energy density of 170 Wh/kg, which is 13% higher than the industry average. This efficiency increase allows for an additional 600 kg of payload capacity for commercial operators.
The battery is rated for a lifespan of up to 12 years or 1.5 million kilometers while maintaining at least 70% of its initial capacity. It includes enhanced mechanical protection and a 15-year anti-corrosion warranty. The battery management system uses a multi-channel architecture to isolate faulty segments, ensuring the vehicle remains operational during minor failures.
CATL has signed a memorandum with DHL Group to establish green freight corridors in Europe. The partnership aims to collaborate with automotive manufacturers to develop electric trucks and launch pilot projects across key logistics routes.
