The Canadian government has unveiled the AI for All initiative, a comprehensive policy framework introduced on June 4, 2026. The strategy allocates over $2,3 billion in government funding over five years to support domestic artificial intelligence development and infrastructure.
The government aims to increase AI adoption among local businesses from the current 12% to 60% by 2034. The plan targets the creation of approximately 250 000 jobs and projects an additional $200 billion in GDP growth resulting from increased productivity.
Prime Minister Mark Carney is advocating for the creation of a global technology stability body to oversee AI safety. This proposal is part of a broader effort to establish technological sovereignty and reduce dependence on foreign platforms from the US and China.
The regulatory component of the strategy includes updated privacy laws and new online safety rules targeting deepfakes and chatbots. Additionally, the Canadian AI Safety Institute will receive expanded authority to evaluate AI models.
Canada is building the Sovereign Technology Alliance, a coalition of middle powers including Germany, Australia, the UK, India, and the EU. Since March 2025, the country has secured AI-related agreements with more than a dozen international partners.
