Former US President Donald Trump signed an executive order redefining artificial intelligence as super intelligence. The directive mandates that federal agencies replace the terms AI and artificial intelligence with SI and super intelligence in official communications, reports, and policy documents.

In response, California Governor Gavin Newsom issued executive order N-10-26 on September 30. This order explicitly instructs all state agencies and departments under his jurisdiction to continue using the terms artificial intelligence and AI in all official state business, regardless of federal terminology changes.

Newsom stated that changing terminology does not address the documented safety risks associated with emerging technologies. The governor's office confirmed that the state will maintain its current naming conventions to ensure consistency in its regulatory and policy framework.
